February Challenge Day 19&20
"Power" Feb Challenge: Movement, temptation. 11x8 Pen and ink. I went in a different direction for this project than you would usually expect from the word "movement." I imagined a woman from the Black Panther Party with headlines of the deaths of black citizens overwhelming her. I included names of present-day victims of police brutality to show how the abhorrent problem, and the movements inspired by it, has continued for decades and is still with us today. The temptation to give up to the continual devastating news threatens to consume her, but messages of perseverance, though seemingly small, continue to hold her up.

February Challenge Day 18
"Room" Feb Challenge: Needs. Digital photograph. I chose to do a picture of my bed and room because my bed provides me with sleep, an obvious need, but can also offer me comfort, solace, or a place to be by myself when I need it.

February Challenge Day 3&4
"Donut" Feb Challenge: Breakfast. 6x7 Chalk pastel on suede board. The black ink splatters were an accident, but I think they create more character and uniqueness. The juxtaposition of the baby blue background and almost sickly sweetness of the pink frosting with the black splatters adds a hint of mystery and edge to the piece.

February Challenge Day 1&2
"Young Love" Feb Challenge: New. 6x8.5 Colored pencil on paper. When I think of first relationships, I think of feelings that are new because they've never been experienced before. There are feelings of both excitement and apprehension because of the lack of knowledge about what to expect from a first relationship.
